Joachim has been active and training for as long as he can remember. He has tried most sports, such as football, basketball, floorball, and athletics. He jumped 1.60 m in the high jump when he was 14 years old and was particularly good at all forms of explosive events like shot put, 60 meter sprint and long jump.

Joachim was quite thin but athletic as a child and loved to move. He started a bit with strength training when he was 15 years old and quickly realized that it was what he wanted to do. He had no specific goals with the strength training at that time other than to get bigger.

Joachim watched a lot of Strongman on TV and was incredibly fascinated by the sport, but it was only when he was 20 years old that he tried Strongman sport for the first time. He went to Kuserud with Rune Andersson like so many others and tried different events. When Joachim was finished, Rune told him that he had entered Joachim in a competition a week later, and after that he has never stopped.
